". . . I experienced a moment of horror over what I’d just done, but
I felt so exhausted, and so utterly hopeless, that the initial fear
and shock slipped away as I drifted off… If there was a heaven, I
thought groggily, it would be good to see my dad. He loved me."

Jacqueline Moser stopped at nothing to win the attention of physicians –
especially psychiatrists – and her role, as she saw it, was in
partnership with them, NOT as a patient. With no credentials, however,
finding a partner –and a case to work on – wasn’t easy… Until, after
several barren years, her husband suggested they adopt a baby. How
perfect! With her workaholic husband away most of the time, Jacqueline
was free to raise the child as she pleased. And it pleased her to have a
“problem child.” From secretly dehydrating Alexis until she required
hospitalization at the age of two, to leaving her in the care of a known
child molester, to repeatedly locking her in a dark closet for hours on
end, Jacqueline was able to create a child doomed to fail. The Grand
Finale, if everything went according to plan, would culminate in Alexis’
suicide – generating all of the attention and sympathy Jacqueline so
richly deserved. Forever.
Except everything didn’t quite go according to plan. Alex did become
mentally ill, her personality fragmented and dissociative. Gradually
developing borderline personality disorder, Alex came to consider
suicide her best option for peace.
But, never having felt or understood it herself, Jacqueline failed to
take one key element into consideration: Love.
The Existence Game tells the story of Alex’s extraordinary journey into
the heart of abuse and neglect, and the tremendous strength of character
and will she mustered to climb out of hell with the help and love of an
extremely talented and dedicated therapist. This is a story of courage
that will not be soon forgotten.
